About Brookhaven

Our Mission: To provide health care and related services to residents that will allow them to maintain their highest level of function in the least restrictive environment. Such services are delivered without regard to race, religion, national origin, or the ability to pay.

Brookhaven Medical Care Facility's roots trace back to the year 1883.  We were originally known as the Muskegon County Infirmary, and later as the Convalescent Home.  In 1969, the need to construct a new modern nursing facility was recognized by the local community.  Through some extensive efforts of the then Muskegon County Board of Commissioners, a new facility was built and opened its doors in 1970 to serve the people of Muskegon County and surrounding areas.  The name " Brookhaven" was chosen after a local contest was held to name the new facility.

The building was far ahead of its time, and remains so today.  It is over 130,000 square feet in size, enjoys exceptionally large resident rooms that provide each person with their own window (with beautiful views), and has a large enclosed natural courtyard area.  Brookhaven was built to last and is exceptionally safe, having once been designated as a local civil defense shelter due to its steel and concrete reinforced construction.

Brookhaven is one of 36 County Medical Care Facilities in the State Michigan.  This special designation distinguishes us from other nursing homes in that our mission is to provide care and services based upon the philanthropic needs of the community.  We are owned by the County of Muskegon, and are operated through a joint effort between Muskegon County, its Board of County Commissioners, and the Muskegon County Department of Human Services Board of Directors.

Brookhaven has 190 licensed nursing home beds, and is certified by the United States Center for Medicare and Medicaid services (CMS) through the Michigan Department of Community Health.

There are approximately 225 full and part-time employees providing outstanding care to our long term residents, and short-stay patients who are here to receive physical, occupational, or speech therapy services for more acute medical diagnoses.

Brookhaven does not discriminate against any person because of race, religion, sex, national origin, age, handicap, sexual preference, marital status, or source of payment.
